In the second of a series on the Chattanooga Declaration we will look at what it means. The second statement is “The privileges, monopolies, and powers that private corporations have won from government threaten everyone’s health, prosperity, and liberty, and have already killed American self-government by the people. “
Since I live in Harris County, Texas near Galveston bay, I am reminded of this when I see the Bayport complex outside. The port complex was put in despite opposition from local communities. By having it voted on county wide, the population in other parts of the county approved it thinking it was not their problem. What the vote did was water down the resistance from local communities. Although your community does not have a Bayport, there may be a highway or other big project where government and private industry have co-opted together to run over the local community. The Bayport project is one of those that is essentially a Chinese company behind the operation with support of American tax dollars and the blessings of numerous CONgress Critters who have visited the port and praised its “progress”. They don’t have to live near it and hear the Rolling Stones blaring over the loudspeakers at 3:00 am either. The operation is a joke. For security they used rent-a-cops that had to receive special dispensation from DPS in order to check identifications. Despite these types of actions, world dignitaries are brought to the facility for tours of what they call a world class facility. The facility is a major source of pollution both from the ships and the traffic generated by the products they have imported. The citizens of Harris County are then forced to use ethanol-laced gasoline which is essentially a pay off to the corn farmers. The reason for the ethanol is to reduce pollution, which had they not built the port would not be an issue at all. In the latest astounding measure, the claim was made that global warming is making the pollution in Harris County rather than mentioning the port and the numerous chemical plants in the area.
I know that in Austin, one of the big issues is toll roads being established and running rampant. The latest is that some of them are double billing patrons. Many roads are being turned into toll roads that had previously been public roads, which is a matter of concern. If a private company had constructed it, then I could understand the toll, but when our tax dollars are used and then we are forced to pay again, I have opposition to such double dipping into my wallet.
Texas wide, we are faced with the Trans Texas Corridor, in which a private Spanish company is being give the government right of eminent domain to snatch property from landowners. Some of the properties have been in families since before Texas existed. One of my family members had had property in the family going back to the Canary Islanders that settled near San Antonio before there was a San Antonio. Such monster projects have taken away many of our freedoms. Viceroy Rick Perry has already decided that the Corridor is going in no matter what the people think. This is the kind of mindset that as a people we are up against.
Besides the TTC, another Texas wide concern is the animal registration programs that are being attempted.
Sadly, I have also heard many local people support those kinds of politicians saying “they are progressive”. Progressive is just another word for power-grabbing, if their progressive programs run contrary to the freedoms of the citizens.
All of these types of programs, whether 100% government of private-government blends pose a significant threat to local communities and individual freedoms. It is for this reason that the League stands in opposition to them.
Free the South!
Free Texas!
