I am often reminded of the line from the movie Blazing Saddles when Slim Pickens asked “What will that idiot think of next?”. These days that question applies to the main stream media and its adherents. The latest installment is from William Ferris, who in a column for the New York Times advocated that the usurper (Ben Barack Hussein Obama) create a new cabinet level position. This new position would be the Ministry of Culture. The audacity of such a suggestion is appaling. I recognize the need to preserve a culture, yet squirm at the thought that someone wants to use taxpayer money to preserve the cesspool of popular culture that currently exists.
If the culture is truly worth preserving, then people will do it. In the South, the past is preserved and retained. The people did it since they believed it was worth saving. Many aspects of Texas culture have been retained becasue it was worth saving, NOT becasue the government decided so. The Alamo, Goliad and other historic structures have been preserved by the citizens and volunteer groups, NOT federal bail out programs.
Add to this the Nazi-like sound of such a position-”The Minister of Culture”. Such a position would sound like a culture cop that insures that only the proper culture which respects all and offends only those deemed undesirable by the regime are supported. The Nazi regime maintained tight reins on culture for a reason. They used it as a tool for propaganda and to create a “homogeneous” culture. Such a position sounds like a new version of “Reconstruction” to me.
If such a position was made, what culture would be preserved pray tell? In this day of political correctness run amok, which culture would be “worthy” of their concern? The empire has already expressed its disdain of Southern Culture and Texas Culture (remember the removal of the historic plaques at the Texas Supreme Court Building?). We do not need a regime that does not even include one Southerner to preserve a cess pool mainstream polyglot culture that currently exists.
Do you want to preserve the mainstream culture that currently exists in the empire? Look at the majority of films that come out of Hollywood. Do they encourage Christian values? Do they provide real heroes that the younger generation can look up to? Do they extol honor? Do they lift up the dignity of Texas or the South?
In most cases, hedonism, greed and selfishness are extolled as virtues. The Texan or Southron are often portrayed in negative light and Christianity is ridiculed. These are not values worth preserving. Perhaps it is time for the cultural arts to produce a good product. In a time when most non-profits are showing some wonderful financial health, how is it that the places that spew out the contemporary values are hurting? Could it be that they are not in touch with the common man? Could it be that the values they portray are not those valued by most freedom loving people?
Once again, the answer is NOT more government. The answer to the financial straits that these cultural fountains is in lies in less government. If you want more support from the common man, deliver something that extols honor, dignity, and Christian values.
