Living large off the government

Years ago, in the book, “I’ll Take My Stand”, an article entitled ‘The Hind Tit’ addressed the issue of people living on the government. Since the book was written, the number of those living off the government, or eating at the government trough has increased. I was reminded of this when I saw an article on how the number of people on disability has increased under the present regime. I know that disability is not the only trough, there is also medicaid and its variants along with the other government programs. It was always astounding to me that for years, those persons who signed up people for medicaid were given bonuses for doing so. They were actually encouraged to sign up more people. When the government does things like that, there are serious problems. What bothered me more was that the practice was commonly discussed and no one saw anything wrong with it. The mindset that began with FDR’s social security has managed to work its way through society like a cancer.

Such a government handout ought to be the last option after everything else has failed. When there is no where else to go in terms of family, church, community, then turn to the government. Instead we have a system where people go to the government first. It is no wonder that there are problems in our families, churches and communities.

Until the people, even those in the churches change their thinking, there will be continued bondage and problems. In order to have a free South and a free Texas, people will need to change their thinking. They will need to not even consider living off the government as an option. Dependency on the government is something that should not even be considered, whether it be for healthcare, disability or other options. Instead, we need to shoulder the responsibility of taking care of family, and helping those in our church family and communities.

It will take time to get to the place where government is no longer an option. Since we have had three or more generations that have accustomed themselves to the government feed trough, it will be a tough habit to break.

Instead of more and more people at the government trough, we need self-reliance. Instead of government handouts that continue growing, we need reductions in handout programs.
