Back when Clayton Williams ran for Governor in Texas in 1990 against Democrat Ann Richards, he made his famous quote about rape where he likened it to the bad weather in Texas. His comparison ended with “As long as it’s inevitable,” Williams was reported as saying, “you might as well lie back and enjoy it.” His comment ended up being a key reason he lost the election. Those same statements were resurrected in the 2008 election and considered “incredibly offensive”. Now within the occupy movement, the attitude toward rape is “rape happens”. There is little difference between the statement of Clayton Williams and the attitude of some OWS members, yet there is no outrage, or claims of being “incredibly offensive” to such attitudes leveled at the OWS bunch.
It is shameful how the hooligans involved with “Occupy Wall Street” or OWS have quickly spun out of any moral decency. This is NOT any way similar to the Sons of Liberty or the patriot movements of the founding of the Confederacy. These people do not have the support of the public behind them. They share more in common with socialist and communist movements than American liberty movements.
The hypocrisy behind the movement and those endorsing their socialist tactics is shameful. Although Nancy Pelosi has made the comment “God bless them”, I doubt that she would have said the same about Clayton Williams.
The OWS movement follows the tactics commonly used by socialist groups.
1) They create the impression that they are a majority, when clearly they are not
2) The glorify communist leaders such as Karl Marx, Che Guevarra, etc.
3) They advocate socialist ideas such as redistribution of wealth
4) They use art and music to make their message more palpable by appealing to the youth
5) They have the support and backing of unions such as SEIU
What is clear is that they are not conducting themselves in an honorable manner. They are using intimidation and mob tactics to bully people.
Instead of such socialist temper tantrums, we need statesmen and leaders. There are major problems in many areas, the biggest is a government that is too big. There are too many regulations on business, like we have seen with Gibson guitars. There are too many regulations on foods like cheese and milk, like we have seen with milk and cheese raids. There are too many regulations on schools. Schools could do a better job and deliver a better product without government regulations and heavy handed federal court rulings. There are too many unfunded federal mandates that are choking out capitol that could be spent on creating jobs.
The solution is NOT more government, it is less government.
Liberty for Texas!
