Imperial Wars praised in Brazoria County Texas

Plans are underway to construct a new memorial dedicated to the veterans of Brazoria County. . THe memorial will be called the ring of honour, although it is more like a ring dedicated to fiction and imperial wars.

The problem is that they have chosen to limits those honoured to the veterans from World War I onward. Such a move allows those behind the memorial to avoid political incorrectness. As part of the memorial, they will include a letter referencing the tyrant Abraham Lincoln that was mentioned in the movie “Saving Private Ryan”. The choice of the latter is fitting. Abraham Lincoln wanted an empire and began the process of building it. To choose a letter from a fictional account for a memorial also paint a poignant picture. It makes a statement that “all the memorial is a fiction” dedicated to a fiction. On the surface it appears to be an honour, but the reality is they will only honour those who fought to protect or expand the imperial aims of the States United (aka the empire).

Even though the County played a significant role in the War of Secession from Mexico, and the War of Northern Aggression, those veterans are ignored. Those wars were to defend the homes and families of the people living in Brazoria County. In the minds of the powers that be (County Commissioners), ONLY those who serve the purposes of the empire are worthy of such honour. Those who fought and died defending their homes do not. Never mind that the Battles of Caney Creek and Velasco were fought within the county, such fights to protect the home are not worthy of being honoured.

The County ignores the fact that the highest ranking general ever killed in combat (Albert Sidney Johnston) called Brazoria County home. Never mind the fact that he served as a general in three armies of three nations, in the eyes of those people trying to avoid controversy, he has been relegated to the ignore file.

The events of Brazoria County Texas are not unique. In many communities, people want to honour veterans, but as they kowtow to political correctness and avoid controversy, they end up sending a confused message, like Brazoria County. Rather than being an expression of thanks, the memorial has turned into a glorification of fictions and wars to expand the imperialism of the nation. Such memorials do not honour those who defended their homes from invaders and tyrants, but rather defending “American” interests overseas and expansion of American power.

As we approach the high holy days in Texas where the Alamo and Goliad are remembered, let us not fall into worship of imperial wars thinking that we are honouring heroes and those brave men and women who thought they were defending their homes.

Liberty for Texas and the South!
