There are times I wonder if they ever teach basic economics in Austin. In the latest display of wrong-headed solutions, the Travis County Health Care District is considering whether to approve $450,000 to pay for abortions in the city. The amount will cover about 1000 abortions. That works out to about $4,500 for each procedure. Since they are using money from property taxes, I wonder if those people paying those taxes knew that their monies were being used to murder their fellow Austinites? Where else but Austin would you find a city that pays to kill its own? This is a travesty of large proportions.

One of the basic principles of economics is that whatever you subsidize, you will get more of. In this case, the folks in Travis County are wanting to subsidize the murdering abortionists in their community. At $4,500 per procedure, they are making a handsome profit. The underwriting of abortions also promotes irresponsible behavior in terms of sexual activity. Forget the stories about how the mythical man-made global warming is leading women into prostitution, in Austin, the Travis County Health Care District is underwriting such behavior. It has nothing to do with global warming in Texas, it has to do with using property tax dollars to underwrite such irresponsible behaviours.

Texans living in the Austin area have an opportunity to speak out against this travesty of policy. If you live in Travis County and do not want your property taxes to continue funding murder in your city, now is the time to speak up. It is one thing if the people want to pay for the abortions themselves, but in Austin, they are using property taxes to pay for the procedures. At $4,500, they are not even cutting many corners on those procedures.  Even the Guttmacher Institute lists the going rate for abortions at $468. The amount being paid in Austin is highly inflated. The property owners of Austin are not even getting a good rate on the price of the abortions. The people making money off this are the abortionists and their clinics. This amounts to almost half a million dollars a year. If the Guttmacher figures are use, 1000 abortions would cost $40,000 instead of the $450,000 being considered by the Travis County Health Care District. This is not only subsidizing irresponsible behavior, it is highway robbery.
