The empire likes to cite Romans 13, which talks about the people being subject to the higher authority. What they do not talk about are the conditions attached to it. The admonition to obey the higher authority is based on the authority being a terror to evil works and  rewarding to good works. That is where the empire has managed to twist things around. The empire rewards evil works (lying: Look at how the administration continues revising its stance on taxing the middle class, Supporting murder/abortion, stealing: look at the exorbitant tax rates on future generations, which amounts to stealing from them and their productivity, promoting wickedness, poisoning the people, not protecting the people of the nation, etc.) The empire rarely rewards good works. When it does, it does not outweigh all the wickedness done prior to that. The passage cites that legitimate government is not a terror to good works. When one is occupied by a government that promotes murder, denigrates the Christian culture, promotes wicked lifestyles, and celebrates perversion, the question arises as to whether Christians have an obligation to submit to such an authority.

The second follow-up question is “What is the legitimate authority?” If you are form a Southern State, the last government was invaded and the Yankees set up an occupational government. The people have not had a vote or say in what government they were under since that time. Although an occupational government is the de jour government, the question remains, is it the legitmate or the de facto government?
