One of the issues that Jefferson Davis was forced to deal with was that of ‘higher law’. This is the idea put forth at that time that there was a law higher than the Bible and Constitution. The laws the promoters came up with were based on social convention or faulty human logic and not on established legal precedents. Abraham Lincoln found new interpretations in the founding document for the “war powers” he assumed even before being sworn in. Other spokesmen of the day found laws where previous generations had not. Jefferson Davis addressed the issue:
“They say, it is true that the Constitution dictates this, the BIble inculcates that, but there is a hither law than those; and they call upon you to obey that higher law of which they are the inspired givers. Men who are traitors to the compact of their fathers-men who have perjured the oaths they have themselves taken-they who wish to steep their hands in the blood of their brothers; these are the moral law-givers who proclaim a higher law than the Bible or Constitution, and the laws of the land…What security have you for your own safety if every man of vile temper, of low instincts, of base purpose, can find in his own heart a law higher than that which is the rule of society, the Constitution and the Bible?”
If you think that the hair brained ideas of previous generations are long past, consider that today’s lawmakers are often claiming that global warming, overpopulation and other issues necessitate making bizarre laws, when there is no legal precedent for their actions either. Lawmakers no longer use the Constitution or the Bible to guide them in making the laws they pass.

The American Free Press has researched which CONgress critters are profiting from the war. In their initial findings, 151 CONgress critters are deriving financial gains from the fighting in the middle east. The number of CONgress critters involved indicates that over 1/4 of those currently in office are deriving financial rewards from the war. That is a significant percentage. In defining profiting, these persons have invested in companies that are receiving significant financial rewards from the war itself. Considering how many people who are loosing money in the stock market, the number of CONgress Critters that are making a profit while others are loosing is large enough to raise some eye brows. If they are making money from it, what is the likelihood that they will end it any time soon?
When you follow the money and see who is profiting, then you obtain a clearer understanding of why certain policies are the ones in place.

The website Lew Rockwell has an excellent article on it this morning. The article, entitled The Enemy is Always The State addresses how governments are always using various crises in order to increase tis power. By using crises as opportunities to expand its power, it grows to ever expanding proportions. The Union has done this to us year after year since it began its occupation of the South. By using various mandates, it has grown to empire size.
One example is how FDR used World War II to expand the power of government. The government forced many of the young men into the army and then used the subsequent labor vacuum as reason to justify the increase in immigration from Mexico (who was a trading partner of Nazi Germany) in order to fill the void. More government was needed to deal with the problem it had created. Government saw itself as the solution to the crisis it created. It was a self-serving crisis. This type of pattern has occurred repeatedly throughout history. The answer to problems is NOT more government. Even in the housing crisis, the answer is NOT more government involvement. The answer is going to be just the opposite, we need less federal government involvement.

Although progressives may have hailed the removal of prayer and the Bible from schools as an accomplishment, the evidence shows it is anything but. In the latest display of how weird government schools have become, a teacher at Annville-Cleona High School was suspended for refusing to allow a cheating student to retake a test. The teacher refused allowing a do-over and the school board decided to suspend the teacher for three days. Fortunately the students spoke out in support of the teacher in this matter. Such incidents are clear indications that there are major problems with morals and standards in the schools.
In a Southern Nation, the local school boards along with the parents would have more input in the matters of the school. Maintaining standards will be more important that worrying about offending someone who did wrong.

Many military veterans look forward to and depend on their pensions. The government provides these pensions as a thank you to veterans who served their nation and its military needs. What if you were denied your pension based on political views you held? Would it be right for the Federal government to deny someone their pensions based solely on political decisions made after the time of their service? The US government refused honoring the pension of Jefferson Davis. The precedent has been set that a person’s pension can be refused based on one’s political views and activities. Although the debate in Congress raged over whether or not to grant the pension, Jefferson Davis never resorted to protesting the decision of the government on the matter.
During the Mexican War, he led his men into battle at Monterey and at Buena Vista. Although he put his life on the line for his nation, the nation did not keep its word with him and honor its obligations. Even though the government did not honor their obligations, the people honored him in life and in his death.
Before you think that the government of the empire will honor its obligations without question remember Jefferson Davis. Before you think that the empire will not remove pensions since you were a good soldier and carried out orders without question, remember Jefferson Davis. Before you assume that your Veteran’s benefits will always be honored, remember Jefferson Davis.
In the days approaching the 200th anniversary of his birth on 3 June, remember Jefferson Davis and what he stood for.

Here is news that is relevant to preserving the culture of the South. The adult magazine, Penthouse is seeking to expand its market and is now hosting the Christian dating service, BigChurch. Sadly, many church going people will likely participate in this service. Since many in the south have departed from courtship, in preference to dating, and using dating services, this should come as no surprise. So instead of praying and trusting God for one’s mate, they can go onto the Penthouse subsidy for a new partner. If the partner is not racy enough, they can go to the parent company website and find someone else there.
Leaving the old ways of courtship and the involvement of family behind has consequences. Situations like what is developing with Big Church is a logical consequence to departing from the old values and old ways. It almost seems like this is a new assault on the family with a friendly face.
This is a sign of the times and a sign to wake up and work toward preserving the culture we have and the values we share.

One of the most alarming episodes in the recent loss of freedoms concerns an incident occurring in Texas. A student, who also serves as a pastor addressed a group of boy scouts. He talked about the Constitution. After speaking to the group, he was pulled aside and question by Federal officials. He was questioned about “acts of terror and espionage” because he dared to talk about the Constitution and the Patriot Act.
Although the Bill of Rights was designed to allow for the free expression of political opinion, the modern interpretation severely restrains free speech. It is extremely ironic that during the War of Northern Aggression, there was more freedom of the Press in the Confederacy than in the Union, even though the modern politically correct interpretation is that the Union was fighting “for freedom”. Many newspapers were shut down in the Northern states for printing theri opinions. The truth is that there was more freedom of speech in Confederate Texas than there is in 2008. There were no government officials questioning people who spoke out on the Constitution. There was those who did speak out. Governor Pendleton Murrah spoke out against the oppressive actions of the Confederate government and the Davis administration quite often. Some of the German immigrants spoke out against the Confederate government as well. There were no government officials barging in on them. Trouble only began when people took up arms against the government.
It would stead Constitutional scholars well to recall the words of Founding Father James Wilson who noted, “that wise and good government–I speak, at present, of no other–instead of contracting, enlarges as well as secures the exercise of the natural liberty of man: and what I say of his natural liberty, I mean to extend, and wish to be understood, through all this argument, as extended, to all his other natural rights.”
Given his comment, the present regime is acting foolishly by contracting rather than expanding the natural liberties of man. Does James Wilson know what he was talking about? Yes, without a doubt. He was a signatory of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. He also later served as a Supreme Court justice.

The presidential candidate Barack Obama recently made the quote,
“My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you’ll join with me as we try to change it.”
- Senator Barack Hussein Obama
I hope that you think through what he said, and the mixed message it contains. Could it have been a slip of the tongue? Perhaps, but given how his Houston, Texas headquarters has a Che Gueverra banner on the wall, I doubt that it was a slip. Manipulators often use contradictory statements. Since the human mind cannot accept both statements at once, it copes by ‘zoning’ out. While zoned out, the listener is then susceptible to suggestions. In other words, it is a hypnotic technique often used to make people accept the speakers suggestions. I do not know if Obama is doing this intentionally, or if he is being coached to do so. Either way, it behooves us to take a close look at such statements and realize how many people in the masses are falling for the suggestions being put forth. There is the obvious weirdness in the statement, that if this is the ‘greatest’ nation, why change it at all? If you change from the greatest, what do you change to?

In doing some recent research, I was amazed at how many communities in Texas are ignorant of the extent of the War Between the States. Yes they know it happened, but they do not realize how many communities it involved. Battles were fought in many Texas locations, Laredo, Galveston, Corpus Christi, Brazos Santiago, Beaumont, Sabine Pass, Caney Creek, Mustang Island, San Lucas Springs, and other locations throughout the State. Many of these communities only pay lip service to what was done to protect their communities. It saddened me when I looked up the “Battle of Matagorda” and found more links regarding sports scores than I found on when men and women laid their lives on the line for their friends, family and homelands.
Few of these sites are marked. This is not surprising since few of the sites when brave Texas boys fought in other states are fought are marked either. There are some places, like Vicksburg, Sharpsburg and Gettysburg that have notable monuments, but many of the battles where Texas boys won are not marked.
We need to remember what these men and women did at those places, along with what they were fighting for. Since only about 10% of Texans owned slaves, it was not about slavery, it was about freedom, it was about local government, it was about keeping intrusive government out of our lives, it was about the government not living up to its promises of protecting the border, it was about many other items as well. If you wonder what they fought for, look up the stated reasons in the article of secession for Texas. The reasons are listed.

Viceroy Perry is proposing returning $10.7 billion back to Texas citizens. Such a move would often be applauded, yet with Perry’s vaccine stance and Trans-Texas corridor stance, it makes me wonder if he is just trying to win back some support for his previous stands supportive of big government. Since the tax money was forcefully removed from us, it makes sense that it be returned. Although Perry wants it returned, Representative Garnet Coleman of Houston is wanting The State of Texas to keep it. Like many of his Democratic cohorts, once he has his hands on the money, he does not want to let go of it. Coleman did take some stands on the tollroads, which he is to be applauded for. It will be interesting to see what the outcome of this matter is.
With such a surplus, it makes one wonder why does there need to be toll roads in the first place?
