Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has surprised many with his showing in Ohio, which is attributed to his receiving support from churches. Huckabee is a Southern Baptist Pastor. In the days of the Republic of Texas, such a man would not have been allowed to run for office. The Constitution of the Republic forbade pastors from holding office in Texas. Those early framers knew how influential pastors can be and took steps to keep that from happening in their nation. It was not that the framers did not want Christians in office, it was a matter that they had seen what Father Hidalgo and his followers had done in Mexico along with their experiences with frontier pastors that led to such a decision. (recall that at times the followers fo Hidalgo got carried away and started some ethnic cleansing of all the Gauchpin in some cities).
The issue of Huckabee raises some modern concerns, not from his followers, but from the Empire. It seems that the IRS wants to keep a close eye on churches. The tax-exempt status of churches is at risk if they take to meddling with politics. Talk about a double standard. The government can step into religious areas (such as Hillary speaking to a congregation at Rick Warren’s Church) , but does not want the church to step into its’ business. Whoever expected the government to play fair. They can talk about freedom of speech, but they are not about to let pulpits practice it. They write the rules but do not live by them. To me this is intimidation and harassment. Pastors played a large role in the American secession from England and in the War of Northern Aggression. I suspect that the Empire wants to keep the churches quiet, so as to prevent any movements. I also know that if a church is serious about serving the Lord and would rather serve God than government, they will continue to preach no matter what the Empire threatens them with.
In a free South, the government would not tell the church what they can or can not preach.
Free the South!
