In observing changes throughout the South, it is fascinating to see where the changes come from and who is behind changes. There are some changes that occur due to the people changing, and there are some that occur due to fringe groups manipulating and forcing change on the people. It is this second type of change that is disturbing. An example of this occurred this past week when it was revealed that the Episcopal Church spends large sums of money funding lawsuits against congregations that oppose supporting sodomy and homosexuality. If the people themselves wanted to support such lifestyles, it would be one thing, but when the administrative body uses lawsuits for force acceptance of such lifestyles, there is manipulation going on. This kind of manipulation is not good. This is not legitimate change, this is coercion.
This is the type of change that occurred in the American Psychiatric Association when they decided to take homosexuality out of the pathology category due to social pressures exerted upon them. Although some of the literature says this occurred in 1973, it did not actually occur until 1987 with the publication of the DSM-III. One the category was changed from sickness to acceptable, a new wave of social pressure mounted. With the removal of homosexuality as a pathology, there was social pressure exerted to then make it an acceptable lifestyle through the 90’s.
I mention this example because there are many changes being forced or coerced on the Southern peoples. There are pressures being placed upon businesses, churches and individuals through lawsuits, threats and restrictions to bring about a false acceptance of social changes. Some of the ones I have seen are pressures to accept illegal immigration, acceptance of affairs, etc. Some employees have even been forced to attend sensitivity classes that amount to nothing more that forced acceptance. These amount to nothing more than a 21st century reconstruction. Sadly, in many cases, it is the citizens tax money and congregations own monies being used against them in these efforts at bringing about change. The reality is there are forces at work to re-make us into someone else’s image of Southerners. They want us to cast aside our values, morals and good raisin’ for the cosmopolitan citizen of the world mindset. If there ever was a time to return to our roots and our tried and true ways of livin’ it is now.
God Save the South,
