As anyone who lives in Harris County Texas knows, the news came out this week that the demographics have changed. What gets interesting is how people interpret the data. VDARE published an article on how the folks at the Chronicle Chronicle Story have put spin on the matter. Harris County Questions The article documents the changes in the demographics, but raises the questions about whether the changes are due to ‘diversity’ or ‘replacement’. Being that Houston was the landing place for so many Katrina refugees, do the numbers reflect that or are they showing that Houston is making an effort to become diverse. Since I live in the area, the replacement explanation is more fitting than the diversity one. Many groups will try to say spin the numbers to reflect some other agenda. What the article does not mention either is that Houston is undergoing some major construction projects and many people are coming into the area for those projects. So do the numbers reflect a move toward becoming a more diverse city or is it that people are looking for a way to make a living these days?
The spin doctors can say all sort of things about how this area is an example of diversity, but the groups are not melting together. Each group maintains its own community, its own churches, its own social network. These numbers do not reflect any kind of melting pot effect, its a massive competition amoung groups for jobs and the assets of western civilization.
Given this experience, it pays to keep in mind that you always have to look at the ‘official’ interpretations of data with skepticism. What are the numbers really indicating. In the case of Harris County, we are still experiencing the effects of Katrina. All one has to do is drive the streets and count the number of cars with Louisiana license plates. Keep in mind also that Big Plantation Government is STILL subsidizing housing for these people (e.g. the checks keep coming in). As long as the checks keep coming, Harris County will still have the Katrina refugees in their midst. From having gone through the experience, I witnessed the fascism of the FEDS and the Red Cross first hand. They wanted to control all services provided to these people and steer them into their control. These agencies actively discouraged private persons and churches from providing assistance. The Red Cross may have nice commercials, but it does not reveal the reality of how things went down here in Harris County.
How does this impact the South? There are many wonks who think they know what is best for the south and its peoples. There are groups that will be interpreting data to fit their own agendas. You will need to consider the source of the interpretation and what their agenda might be, before swallowing it as the truth.
